From circus in Cambodia to contemporary dance in Brazil to theatre in China, Victorian creativity will connect with the world with support from the Victorian Government.
Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley today announced $263,000 to support ten Victorian creative projects to be undertaken with leading international partners – in Victoria and across the globe.
The diverse projects demonstrate the strength and breadth of Victoria’s artists and creative organisations, and their international profile and connections.
Renowned Victorian interactive children’s theatre company, Polyglot Theatre will present the world premiere season of a new work, Cerita Anak (Child’s Story), to audiences in both Indonesia and Australia. The project continues a longstanding creative partnership with Indonesia’s Papermoon Puppet Theatre.
ILBIJERRI, Australia’s leading Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Theatre Company, will tour JACK CHARLES V THE CROWN to the United States, building on previous successful seasons in London, Dublin and Canada.
In its first foray into Asia, Victorian Opera will present The Butterfly Lovers – one of China’s Four Great Folktales – in Singapore; while Finucane & Smith will present their gothic drama, The Flood, as part of the 2016 Shanghai International Contemporary Theatre Festival in November 2016.
International engagement is a key priority area of Creative State, Victoria’s $115 million creative industries strategy. The strategy aims to grow the state’s $23 billion creative economy, including increasing exports and cultural tourism.
